General Information

1 Education Philosophy:

Being aware of the fast changes taking place in the shipping industry, IRISL MTI has chosen the strategy of “fast respond” to the training needs of the industry by continuously revising existing courses and “flexibility” in developing and conducting new tailor made training programs.

 

2 Education Goals:

IRISL Maritime Training Institute(IRISL MTI) was founded on December 22, 1989 with mission of providing competent Mariners to serve & assist the national shipping companies for more efficient operation and to comply with National and International safety, Security and Environmental protection requirements.

 

At later stage the Institute’s mission was revised to also include providing qualified personnel to the Maritime Industry at large, considering the changes has taken place in the Industry. In this effort the Institute is guided by the feedback provided by Mariners and Maritime industry, as well as the new demands of a changing operating environment.

Structure of Program

9.1 Structure of Navigation program

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NAUTICAL STUDIES

This course is designed as per provisions of the Regulation II/1 of the STCW Convention and is approved by the Iranian Maritime Administration (PSO).


Learning objectives:

Achieving competency to perform as Officer in charge of the Navigational watch on board merchant ships (GT≥500) engaged in unlimited voyages.


Entry requirements:

National diploma in Mathematics. 


 

Course content:

1. Terrestrial and coastal navigation.


2. Celestial and ocean navigation.

3. Ship stability.


4. Ship construction.


5. Navigational aids/magnetic and gyro compasses.


6. Cargo handling and stowage.


7. Meteorology.


8. Watch keeping.


9. Radar navigation.


10. Emergency procedures.


11. Search and Rescue.


12. Maritime English.


13. Ship maneuvering and handling.


 

Course duration:

3 years + 12 months of apprenticeship on board oceangoing vessels

 

 

9.2 Structure of Marine Engineering program

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MARINE ENGINEERING

This course is designed as per provisions of the Regulation III/1 of the STCW Convention and is approved by the Iranian Maritime Administration (PSO).


 

Learning objectives:

Achieving competency to perform as Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch on board merchant ships (KW ≥750) engaged in unlimited voyages.


 

Entry requirements:

National diploma in Mathematics.

1. Marine Electronics & Electro-Technology


2. Engineering Drawing


3. Static, Dynamic and Strength of Material


4. Thermodynamic and Heat Transfer


5. Fluid Mechanic and Hydraulic


6. General Engineering Knowledge


7. Motor Engineering Knowledge


8. Naval Architecture and Ship Construction


9. Workshops and Laboratories


10. Onboard Training and Cadetship.


11. Watch keeping duties and responsibilities.


12. Maritime English.


13. Safe working practices.


 

Course duration:
3.5 years + 6 months of apprenticeship on board oceangoing vessels.
